Diana arrived at her new school holding her words like marbles in her pocket. She didn't understand anyone, and no one understood her. She had no way to reach out — so she closed herself off and tried to disappear.

A bilingual classmate noticed her. Small moments, in Spanish and in English, began to open a door Diana thought was closed.
